I grill all the time, probably 2-3 times per week. And, like any crazy chef with a thing for grilling, I’ve got several different kinds of grills. It’s easy to throw a steak or chicken on the grill, but the sides get a little harder. That’s where these easy Grilled Cauliflower Steaks come in. They’re hearty, flavorful without overtaking the flavor of the meat, and are easy to prepare.

I love grilling cauliflower because it really gets rid of that funky cauliflower flavor. Can you tell I’m not a big cauliflower fan? Well, except for this recipe. I usually make double – two heads of cauliflower – so that I have enough for seconds and leftovers. It’s just that good!

Ingredients

  • Olive oil
  • Dried herbs – Italian blend or oregano, basil, thyme…whatever you like.
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Lemon juice – Just a squeeze.

How to Make Grilled Cauliflower Steaks

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat to ensure it’s hot and ready for the cauliflower steaks.
  2. Wash and trim the leaves off the cauliflower, and cut it into thick steaks approximately 3/4 inch thick. Be careful to keep the core intact to hold the steaks together.
  3. Mix the dried herbs, salt and pepper in a small bowl, then brush the herb oil over both sides of the cauliflower steaks.
  4. Grill the cauliflower steaks for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until they have nice grill marks and are tender. The exact time may vary based on your grill and the thickness of your cauliflower steaks.
  5. Squeeze a bit of lemon juice over the grilled steaks before serving to add a fresh zing that lifts all the flavors beautifully.

Chef Jenn’s Tips

  • When cutting the steaks, keep the core intact to keep the cauliflower from falling apart.
  • Make sure the grill is properly preheated to avoid the cauliflower sticking and to achieve those beautiful grill marks.
  • Keep an eye on the steaks as they grill. Each grill is different, and cooking times may vary.
  • Experiment with different dried herbs to find your favorite combination. Each blend offers a unique taste profile. Try Italian seasoning, lemon pepper, Cajun, or even a steak blend.

Make It A Meal

Easy Grilled Cauliflower Steaks are wonderfully versatile and can pair with almost any side dish. I love serving them with smoked chicken thighs from my pellet grill/smoker, or even just some juicy burgers. If you have leftovers, chop up the grilled cauliflower and add it to a salad the next day. Yum!

Storage

To store leftover cauliflower steaks, allow them to cool completely before placing them in an airtight container. They can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
