What is a Pork Tomahawk Chop?

If you’re wondering what exactly a pork tomahawk chop is, you’re not alone. This eye-catching cut gets its name from its distinctive shape that resembles a tomahawk axe. Essentially, it’s a bone-in pork chop, with the bone left long for presentation. When cooked right, this cut is exceptionally juicy and tender, making it a perfect choice for grilling.

How Long Does It Take To Make Pork Tomahawk Chops on the Ninja Woodfire Grill?

About 10 minutes is a good estimate. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your chops and the temperature of the chops when they went onto the grill. The colder the chops, the longer they’ll take.

Ingredients

  • 2 pork tomahawk steaks: You can find these at most high-quality butcher shops or grocery stores with a good meat selection.
  • Salt: This brings out the natural flavors of the meat.
  • Black Pepper: Adds a hint of heat to the dish.
  • Paprika: This gives a sweet and smoky flavor, and if you fancy more heat, opt for hot paprika.
  • Onion Powder: It contributes to a savory depth.
  • Garlic Powder: This injects a rich, garlic flavor without the hassle of mincing cloves.

You’ll also need:

  • Ninja Woodfire Pellets: These are essential for providing that irresistible smoky flavor. You can buy them from any home appliance store or online.

Chef Jenn’s Tips

  • Ninja Woodfire Grill cooks hot! Those chops will have enough carry-over cooking to cook them all the way through.
  • Temp your chops close to the bone AND in the meatier section so you don’t risk undercooked pork.
  • I like regular woodfire pellets with pork. I find the robust ones too strong.
  • You can make this without the addition of smoke, but that smoky flavor is so good!

Make It A Meal

Wondering what to serve with your smoked pork Tomahawk chops? When it comes to side dishes, you can’t go wrong with a classic potato salad or coleslaw. If you’re feeling adventurous, try serving your chops with a fresh, zesty peach salsa or grilled corn. For a more upscale dining experience, consider a creamy risotto or a crisp green salad with a tangy vinaigrette. Ultimately, the beauty of these Ninja Woodfire Grill Pork Tomahawk Chops is that they’re versatile enough to pair with just about anything, so feel free to let your culinary imagination run wild!

Storage

Store any leftover pork chops in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. You can eat the leftovers cold, on a salad, in a sandwich, or heat them up gently. I love cutting up leftover pork and making a hash out of it.
